What is welding? It is the process of joining two or more pieces of metal together. This process is also popularly known by the word "welding". It is accomplished by heating the end areas of the metal surface with an electric arc or torch and then uniting them by hammering, pressing, etc. Because welding requires the use of these dangerous accessories, the process is prone to fires, and welders are susceptible to skin burns and, in the worst case scenario, blindness. Of course, the process involves a great deal of risk and should only be performed by highly skilled professional welders.
Let's take a look at some important things to consider before starting to weld.
#1. Read the manual carefully.
When you buy a welder, you have a choice of different brands. No matter which brand you choose, you can't fully use the machine unless you know how to use it properly. Just make sure you are bored with the manual. This will help you while you are working and reduce welding hazards.
#2. Working in open areas.
When one uses a welding machine, I am sure you have noticed the fumes and smoke rising from the fixed metal surfaces. When work is done in an enclosed room, there is a good chance that you will soon begin to feel uneasy and nauseous from breathing in these toxic fumes. Therefore, it is important to maintain proper contact with the outside air wherever you are working. It is best to choose an open area.
#3. Cover yourself.
When you weld with maximum attention, sparks coming out of the metal surface can go unnoticed and burn your skin. Be sure to cover every exposed skin by buttoning up front pockets, cuffs and shirt collars. You can pair this with flame-retardant clothing, such as a welding jacket and specially designed jeans. It is also important to cover your face (especially your eyes) with a welding cap. These helmets come in more appropriate shades to protect the eyes from the "arc flash".
#Wear gloves and proper shoes.
Don't try to weld with your bare hands, you're sure to get hurt. There are special gloves on the market designed specifically for welding purposes. Therefore, it is obvious that these gloves are flame retardant. You should also choose flame retardant shoes because sparks can also fly to your feet and burn them badly. High top leather shoes or boots are the most suitable shoes when working with a welder.
