Welding is a manufacturing process used to join metal pieces or parts together by heating the surface to the melting point. The process can use a variety of energy sources, including gas flame, electric arc, laser, electron beam, friction and ultrasonic. The process has been used to join metals since very ancient times, but since then, these techniques have been changing and advancing.
Different techniques used.
Many different techniques have been used, including arc, gas, resistance, laser beam, electron beam and lightning welding. Different techniques involving manual labor are offered, as well as advanced automatic and semi-automatic methods. It can also be done in different environments, such as open air, enclosed rooms, underwater and outer space. Wherever it is done, care should be taken to follow proper precautions. Proper helmets, gloves and jackets must be used.
Electric arc welding - a boon for welders.
It involves the use of an electric current to join two metals. The current produces a very high temperature arc that causes the metal to melt, thus facilitating the welding. Different advances have been made in this process to make it more reliable and easier. It is one of the most commonly used techniques because it is not expensive and requires less labor. The different types of electric arc welding include
- shielded metal arc, - gas metal arc, - submerged arc
- Flux cored arc and
- Electroslag welding
Aluminum welding.
This is one of the difficult techniques due to the texture of aluminum. The metal surface must be clean and free of contamination to ensure a pure connection. Due to the very low melting point of aluminum, the welder must be fast and careful enough when engaging in this technique. A TIG welding process involving tungsten electrodes is usually used most often.
Contamination-free welding.
Metal inert gas shielded or MIG welding, also known as gas shielded metal arc welding, is a semi-automatic or automatic process. It is a faster method compared to conventional techniques. Since the process uses inert or semi-inert gas for protection, it results in a contamination-free weld.
Safety first welding caps.
When he thinks of welding, what comes to mind? Heat, gas, fire and bright light. Therefore, those involved must be protected from all of these. The helmet plays an important role in this regard because it protects the person's head. It protects the person from heat, sparks and UV rays. The main vital organ that is susceptible is the eye. There is a high probability that the cornea or retina will be burned off. Exposed skin can also be affected by the emission of rays and gases. Helmets must be able to cover a person's face, head and shoulders from burns. Standard helmets free of cracks and sutures must be selected, as damaged helmets cannot be used for essential purposes.
Welding is widely used in many different industries and proper contamination-free welding can be performed if proper precautions are followed.
